Lasith Croospulle and Salinda Ushan slam brilliant centuries

It was a batting day in the Plate Championship of SLC Premier League, which kicked off today (18th January) Friday.

Lasith Croospulle’s 157 helped Negombo CC end day one with their noses ahead in their match against Ragama CC at Katunayake. Ragama CC skipper Amila Aponso won the toss and elected to field first. After the early wicket of Shiha Dilasiri Lokubandara, Lasith Croospulle and Ashen Silva put together a century stand for the 2nd wicket. Silva missed out on a half-century but Lasith pushed on and made a brilliant 157. His innings was supported by Prasansana Jayamanne who remained unbeaten on 63 at stumps on day 1.

SL Ports Authority  CC v Badureliya CC

Badureliya were 338 for 7 at stumps on day one in their match against SL Ports Authority in Colombo today. Sri Lanka Ports Authority won the toss and put Badureliya in on a dry surface. Skipper Alankara Asalanka fell cheaply and he was shortly followed by Nuwanidu Fernando and Nadeera Nawela which put Badureliya at 90 for 3.

The Super Eights stage of the Sri Lanka Cricket Premier League Tier A tournament began today(17), with four matches kicking off around the island.

However, opening batsman and former Isipathana College captain Saalinda Ushan hung on and got together with the former Zimbabwean skipper Tatenda Taibu to post a 97 run stand for the 4th wicket. Ushan scored a sensible hundred while Taibu missed out on a half-century.

Later on in the day, the lower middle order with the likes of Denuwan Rajakaruna and Kosala Kulasekara pushed Badureliya over 300 runs before stumps.

Moors SC v Burgher Recreation Club

Moors SC were bowled out in the first innings for 321 in their match against BRC at Bloomfield grounds today. BRC won the elected to field first. Apart from Pabasara Waduge, Moors top order fell apart against the bowling of Mohammed Shiraz, Tilakarathne Sampath and Hashane Ramanayake.

However, the middle order strung together a few cameos around veteran Chamara Silva who stroked a valuable 81.

At stumps on day 1, BRC were 47 for 1 in their first innings.
