Thomian speedster Kalana Perera demolishes Mahanama

Under 19 ‘Division 1’ Cricket Tournament 2018/19

Five matches of the Singer Schools ‘Under 19 Division 1’ Cricket Tournament 2018/19 were conducted today around the island.

S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia vs Mahanama College, Colombo

S. Thomas’ College managed to record an innings victory over Mahanama College in their Group C fixture which was worked off today at Mount Lavinia. Thomian left arm seamer Kalana Perera demolished the batting lineup of Mahanama picking up a match bag of 10 wickets for 54 runs.

St. Peter’s College, Colombo vs Royal College, Colombo

St. Peter’s College managed to take major honours in the drawn traditional encounter against Royal College which concluded today at St. Peter’s College grounds in Colombo. After being 22 for 0 at overnight, Royal College batsmen were bundled out for 125 runs for their first innings. Left arm spinner Kanishka Maduwantha was the pick of the bowlers for the hosts as he picked up 5 wickets for 28 runs in 19.3 overs with 7 maidens.

After being asked to follow on, the visitors showed much better batting display in the second innings posting 177 for 3 at the close of play. Ahan Sachintha top scored with a knock of 58 runs which came off 54 balls including 10 fours.

The traditional fixture between Dharmaraja College and Nalanda College ended in a draw today at Kandy with the visitors claiming first innings points. The all-round performance of Raveen De Silva was the key highlight of the match as he scored a half century with the bat and picked up 7 wickets with the ball for Nalanda College.

The Group C fixture between St. Joseph Vaz College and St. Servatius College also ended in a draw today at Matara but the first innings points was won by St. Servatius College. Chethaka Denuwan and Shashika Dilshan starred with the ball for the hosts picking up 3 wickets each. Sri Lanka U19 skipper Nipun Dhananjaya shone with the bat for the visitors scoring 66 runs.

The Group A fixture between Maris Stella College and Devapathiraja College commenced today at Galle International Cricket Stadium. After winning the toss, the Maris Stella College skipper opted to bat first and posted 222 runs on the board with Ravindu Fernando top scoring with a knock of 126 runs. In reply, the lads from Rathgama were in a spot of bother as they finished day one at 76 for 5.
