Army pushed CCC into the relegation zone with one week of cricket remaining in the Plate Championship, when they came from no where to record a thrilling two wicket win over the much fancied outfit.

Army were always behind in the game after conceding a 68-run first innings lead, but it was the man with a brave heart Seekuge Prasanna who led their come back with a five wicket haul in the second innings to bowl CCC out for 120 to set up 189 for victory.

The Army run chase was in tatters at 59/5 with Asela Gunaratne also dismissed, but just when you thought magic man Seeku was done in the match, he produced an innings of a lifetime hitting the likes of Dinuka Hettiarachchi, Sachith Pathirana and Wanindu Hasaranga to all parts of the BRC cricket ground on his way to a 29 ball 63 gaining momentum for his side.

He was dismissed with a further 64 runs required for victory before Ajantha Mendis used his experience making 37 runs, while Lakshitha Madushan remained unbeaten on an invaluable 35* to guide the soldiers to a magnificent two wicket win.

Badureliya SC also recorded a crucial first innings win to rise to the second spot in the Plate Championship thanks to half centuries from Nadeera Nawela and Salinda Ushan.

Ports Authority put up a stunning all-round display to beat the much fancied Ragama CC outfit by an innings and 42 runs.

While spinners Chanaka Komasaru and Maduka Liyanapathiranage picked up 9 and 8 wickets in the match respectively, it was Gayan Maneeshan’s unbeaten 139* that led Ports to a massive 485/9 declared in their first innings.
