Samarawickrama’s magnificence; Jayasuriya’s flamboyance

Six matches of the Sri Lanka Cricket Major Limited Over Tournament ended in no result today due to bad light and rain while NCC, Colts and Chilaw Marians recorded wins.

Mahela Udawatte and Angelo Perera hit centuries in NCC’s dominant win over Badureliya SC. Udawatte was dismissed for 117 while Perera went on to remain unbeaten on 106* as NCC made 326/5 batting first. Badureliya never got going in their run chase and were reduced to 139/7 in 29 overs when the game was eventually called of due to bad light, handing a 83 run win on Duckworth Lewis to NCC.

Sadeera Samarawickrama’s brilliant 124* not out guided Colts to a thrilling two wicket win over Army SC at Panagoda. Ajantha Mendis and Seekuge Prasanna picked up two wickets apiece for the soldiers but it all went in-vain against an epic knock by Samarawickrama.

Shehan Jayasuriya hit a magnificent 161 as Chilaw Marians overcame Galle CC by 97 runs on Duckworth Lewis. Jayasuriya’s impressive knock included 4 sixes and 15 fours as Chilaw made 318/8 batting first. Galle CC was 135/5 in 34 when bad light halted play with Sachithra Serasinghe picking up two wickets.
