Sajeewa Weerakoon joined the prestigious 800 first-class wicket club as he managed 5 wickets in the match against Saracens SC this weekend.

38 year old Weerakoon came into the game with a total wicket tally of 795 and registered the prestigious 800 mark as he dismissed Denuwan Rajakaruna in the second innings of the game.

The left arm spinner currently plays the role of player-coach for Galle Cricket Club, and has managed 25 wickets in 6 matches so far this season.

He graduated from St. Aloysius’ College, Galle and went on to make his debut for Tamil Union in the 1996/ 97 season and since has gone on to be crowned the best bowler on an astonishing 6 occasions in the Sri Lanka Cricket Premier tournament.

Weerakoon also represented Sri Lanka in a few ODIs in 2012 but has not managed a call up since then.

He has represented the likes of Burgher Recreation Club, Colts Cricket Club, Ruhuna, Sri Lanka A in Sri Lanka and even went on to play for Victoria Sporting Club abroad.

Fellow left arm spinner Rangana Herath, Dinuka Hettiarchchi and spin Legend Muttiah Muralitharan are the other Sri Lankans who have passed this mark. congratulates Sajeewa Weerakoon for his excellent achievement.
