Musaeus College secured a dominant 38-18 win against Gateway College to retain the Marie Musaeus-Rohini Alles Challenge Trophy at the 2nd Musaeus College v Gateway College Netball Encounter.

Updated Netball World Rankings released; Sri Lanka remain No. 1 in Asia

Sri Lanka remain at 18th position in the updated Netball World…..

Both teams had players who represented their country in the Asian Youth Netball Championship and the Sri Lanka Schools Netball team. Gateway’s Aneesha Perera and Vishmika Rathnayake were part of the team that finished 3rd in the Asian Youth Championship while Tiana Bollegala from Musaeus College represented the Sri Lanka Schools side. 

The match played at the Gateway College Grounds in Rathmalana saw Musaeus, who won the inaugural encounter 27-25, getting off to a flyer scoring the opening 4 goals. They continued in the same fashion to end the 1st quarter 12-2.

The 2nd quarter was a much closer affair, but Gateway failed to close the gap. The quarter ended 19-9 (7-7). 

After the half time break it was Musaeus who once again increased their winnings in the 3rd quarter 11-4. The scores read 30-13. Musaeus College managed to win the 4th quarter 8-5 and with it the match 38-18.

For Musaeus College it was the Wijenayake sisters, Dilmi (GA) and Nethmi (GS) and Onelly Bambarenda who shone.

Onelly Bambarenda was named the Best Player while Dilmi Wijenayake and Aneesha Perera were named the Best Shooter and Best Defender respectively. 

In the U15 encounter Musaeus College once again defeated Gateway College. Senuthi Kottegoda and Onethra Jayasena from Musaeus were named the Best Player and Best Shooter respectively. Methuli Erahapola of Gateway was named the Best Defender. 

In the Exhibition Match Gateway College, Kandy defeated Methodist College.
