St. Peter’s College, College put up a solid performance against Dharmaraja College, Kandy in their Singer-cup group A clash which began today at Dharmaraja grounds.

The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first and they wrapped up for a below par 168 in 66.3 overs. Gihan Vitharana and Niwantha Herath made useful 40s, while Peterite left-arm spinner Miflal Ameen rattled the opposition with a 6 for and off-spinner Chathura Obeysekara chipped in with 4 scalps for the visitors.

In reply the visitors ended the day on 79 for 2 wickets in 29 overs as the Peterite batsmen Santhush Gunathilake scored 35 and Sulakshana Fernando remain unbeaten on 27.

St. Joseph’s Vaz College vs St. Mary’s College

Yohan Pieris and Sandaruwan Fernando shone for St. Joseph’s Vaz College, Wennappuwa as they ended in a commanding position in the opening day against St. Mary’s College, Kagalle in a traditional fixture which started today at Albert Pieris grounds.

Yohan Pieris stroked an unbeaten 101 and his team mate Sandaruwan Fernando unfortunately missing out on a century as he made 98 runs to guide St. Joseph’s Vaz to a mammoth 310 for 8 wickets inside 84 overs as they declared the innings. Gayan Udage finished with 3 for 63 for the lads from Kagalle.

In reply St, Mary’s College were 32 for no loss at close of play.

Mahinda College vs St. Benedict’s College

Mahinda College, Galle posted 226 in the opening day of the Singer-Cup group B encounter against St. Benedict’s College, Colombo which began at Galle international stadium.

The hosts won the toss and decided to bat as they accumulated 226 for 9 in 97 overs.  Left-handed Vinura Hiranjith guided them with a well-made half century while Kavindu Ediriweera chipped in 42 valuable runs as Mahesha Theekshana and Kaveesha Jayathilake shared 5 wickets for the visitors.
