The 35th Annual SLT Mercantile Athletic Championships, organized by the Mercantile Athletic Federation, took place on the 18th and 19th of August 2018 at the Sugathadasa International Stadium – Colombo.
The top scorers of last year, managed to maintain their streak with MAS Holding PLC crowned champions of the Championship. MAS Holding PLC with approximately 600 athletes was also able to secure both Women’s and Men’s Championships. Sri Lanka Telecom Group and Sampath Bank PLC followed as the First and Second runners up of the tournament.
There was a considerable increase in the establishment of New Meet Records tallying a total of 31. G.H.P.Kalpani Ginimella representing Noratel International (Pvt) Ltd in the Novices group was awarded the Best Athlete in the Women’s category for her performance in the Long Jump event, establishing a New Meet Record with a performance of 5.14m. She was also able to clear another New Meet Record in the Triple Jump event.
The Best Athlete of the Men’s category was Sachith Nilakasha Perera from NDB Bank PLC for his outstanding performance in the 200m event, clocking a time of 21.6 sec with a New Meet Record. This young athlete representing the Championship group also secured a Gold in the 100m sprint. The Athletes, R.M. Rejita and Santosh Kumar Padhan were named the Best Athletes India in the Women’s and Men’s categories respectively, both for their performances in the Triple Jump event.
