25-year old batsman Kithruwan Vithanage has been banned from all forms of cricket by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for a period of one year with immediate effect due to a breach of discipline.

“He is banned from playing any form of official cricket under the jurisdiction of SLC, not even club cricket or use SLC facilities for training for a period of one year.” Sri Lanka Cricket Secretary Mohan De Silva confirmed today to ThePapare.com at SLC Headquarters.

He has been proved to be involved in a brawl recently and has been charged with a one-year ban by the SLC Disciplinary Committee after an inquiry held on June 25th.

Vithanage was given a suspended sentence of one year in 2014 after he had left the team hotel overnight during a Test match in Galle against Pakistan.

He has played 10 Tests, 6 ODIs and 3 T20Is for Sri Lanka over a span of three years since 2013 but has taken the headlines due to his off-field behavior.

“There is no inquiry or a charge sheet against Ramith Rambukwella.” De Silva further stated.

Before the current ban, Vithanage was named in the Sri Lanka ‘A’ squad to tour England for the tri-series involving, Pakistan ‘A’ and England Lions. Vithanage’s replacement has not been officially announced.
