The founding school of the oval ball game in Sri Lankan schools rugby, Kingswood College, has appointed Tharindu Waligampola as their captain for the new season of 2018.
Waligampola, a 4th year coloursman, has led the Kingswood junior teams to various victories. Having been a key player in the three quarter line and in the team for most of the last season, Waligampola will be looking to lead Kingswood Rugby back to the top, where the glory days will be remembered again.
One of the front-runners in Sri Lanka school’s rugby…
Rashmika Chandrarathna who is from the pack will be Waligampola’s vice-captain and also the pack leader. Chandrarathna playing his third year in the school jersey, will be playing at the prop position. Known for his aggression and barging runs and being clinical in defence, Chandrarathna will be expected to play a mature role this time around for Kingswood.
Kingswood played some excellent rugby last season as they managed to finish top of the B division and also managed to defeat the 4th ranked Wesley College in the traditional game held at Bogambara. Having had a good season last time around they will look to give Royal a good run in the first match of the season.
