Kimiko Raheem sets new SAG record; wins four Golds

Kimiko Raheem the younger sibling of the Raheem sisters achieved the rare feat of breaking a South Asian Games record as well as a Sri Lankan best winning the 200m Backstroke with a record timing of 02:18:09 minutes at Guwahati Swimming Complex.

This was Kimiko’s 5th medal at the South Asian Games that includes 4 Gold and silver. Earlier Kimiko won the 100m Freestyle clocking a new national record of 57.20 seconds while her elder sister Machiko Raheem won the silver with a timing of 59.64. The 50m Backstroke was an easier attempt for the Lankan swimmer as she ended up with Gold with a timing of 29.75.

In a similar manner the two Raheem sisters ended up in first and second place in the 50m Freestyle event as Kimiko got gold with 26.49 followed by her elder sister Machiko who clocked in at 27.4. The only silver medal that Raheem won was from the 4X100 meters freestyle event coming second behind the Indian team

Kimiko Raheem who is currently undergoing training with a full sponsored FINA scholarship at Thiyanapura, Thailand lived up to the expectations with her four gold medals and the silver while her sister Machiko Raheem won 5 Silver medals and a bronze medal.
