Kamindu and Abishek steer Richmond to a massive win

Richmond College, Galle thrashed St. Servatius College, Matara by innings & 115 runs in the Singer Schools U19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament group ‘C’ encounter which concluded today (27) at Galle International Stadium.

After knocking the opponents out for 87, Richmond College ended the opening day on 194/3 with both Thavisha Abishek and Kamindu Mendis remaining unbeaten on half-tons.

The two experienced batsmen went on to make triple figures to declare the innings on 307/4 in 67 overs. Kamindu Mendis eventually got out for a magnificent 133 off 185 balls that comprised of 13 fours and a maximum. Right-hander Thavisha Abishek continued to dominate the bowling as he finished on an unbeaten 100 off 106 deliveries that included 8 boundaries and 2 huge sixes.

Abishek and Mendis were the stars of the innings as they scored 163 runs for the 4th wicket to give Richmond College a 220-run lead in the 1st innings.

Right-arm seamer Dananjaya Lakshan was impressive with the ball in hand in the second essay as he picked up 4 vital wickets to rattle the lads from Matara for a disappointing 105 all out in 42.3 overs. Last year’s runner-up Richmond College started their season on a high with an innings & 115 run victory.

St. Aloysius College, Galle vs St. Anthony’s College, Wattala

St. Aloysius resuming the second day on 211/8, was dismissed for a fighting 217 all out in 61.3 overs in a group ‘B’ encounter. The afternoon session was washed out due to poor weather in Hambantota.

In pursuit of 218 to win first innings, the lads from Wattala were demolished for 55 all out by the left-arm spin of Hareen Buddhila. He bowled only 12.3 overs to claim 6 scalps to enforce a follow-on for St. Anthony’s College.

Antonians held on to a draw on a rain hit-day as they finished on 68/5 in the second innings. High- riding St. Aloysius had to be satisfied with first innings points in their opening group game.
