Japan annihilates Sri Lanka in Cup Quarters

Tournament favourites Japan demolished Sri Lanka by 70 points, keeping the Lankans scoreless in the cup quarterfinal of the Youth Olympic Asia Qualifier U17 Girls tournament in Dubai.

Sri Lanka kicked the game off knowing the task ahead was a mountain to climb, if they were to beat Japan.

Japan did not waste time as Rinka Matsuda scored with the time reading 17 seconds. Sora Nishimura made it a perfect seven taking the favourites ahead within a minute to go.

Four further tries were scored by the Japanese girls as they had no mercy on a dejected Sri Lanka outfit. Moe Tsukui and Karin Ozaki scored two each, taking the Japanese into the half time with a 35 point lead, conceding none.

Sora was on target with all five conversions as the game was all but secured by Japan before the half time.

The second half was no different as Japan repeated their feat with five converted tries. Sora was the first to score this time around when she dotted down, two minutes into the second half

Nishimura doubled her tally as the Japanese girls began to roast the Sri Lankans. Keina Matsui and Wakaba Hara made it five tries in the second half as well as they had no mercy on the Lankan girls.

Moyu Takagi added the final three conversions after Sora who kicked over the first two conversions in the second half.

Japan now progress through to the cup semi-finals while Sri Lanka will play the plate semi-final.
