Jaffna’s vaulting Queen Anitha soars to a new height

Pole Vaulting sensation from Jaffna Anitha Jegathiswaran who has been eclipsing the National Women’s Pole Vault record in every event that she takes part, managed to renew her own record at the 95th National Athletic Championship today (01st September) with a record breaking vault of 3.47m.

Anitha held the national record for her performance of 3.46m at the national trials that was held in June this year and managed to better her own effort by a centimeter. Speaking to ThePapare.com soon after her triumph Anitha confirmed that she was happy of being able to better her own record but also mentioned that she wanted to surpass the Asian qualification standard of 3.5m but failed to do so as she had changed the poles prior to the event.

S P Ranasinghe of Sri Lanka Airforce came in second with a performance of 3.20m while Anitha’s training partner and cousin C Herina also from Jaffna was placed third with a performance of 3.00m
