ISAC 2015 to start off on the 27th of February

The International Schools athletics Championship (ISAC) 2015 is to be held on the 27th, 28th and 1st of March at the Sugathadasa Stadium, Colombo. A press conference was gathered today at the SSC to brief the media on this championship.

The Championship which commenced in 2001 has come a long way from starting at the Shalika grounds in a very minute way to the grand scale it is now. Gateway College has been entrusted with the privilege of being the official organizer for this year’s Championship as has been case for the previous two years as well.

The event is to begin at 8.00 a.m. and wind up at 6.00 p.m. and is to entertain many talented athletes on the tracks and field. Since the inaugural competition, the Athletics standards among International schools have steadily grown to an extent where several Athletes have gone on to represent the country at the highest level. A few of such Athletes are; Shehan Ambepitiya, Keith De Mel, Gayandi Ranabahu and Udara Rathnayake.

“We have had many barriers when it comes to taking part in sports in Sri Lanka and competing against Government and private schools but, we have been able to overcome these barriers and compete against these schools” said the Chairman of the TISSL Dr. Harsha Alles emphasizing on the journey these schools have come thus far in the sporting arena of the country.

The Championship is to be conducted under International Athletics Federation competition rules including electronic timing and measurements. Around 3,000 Athletes are to take part in this year’s championship with over 15,000 spectators are expected to crowd the Sugathadasa Stadium.

The principal sponsor for the championship will be Pearson Qualifications International while being Co-Sponsored by Dialog Axiata group. The Chocolate partner is to be Ritzbury whilst HSBC has come forward as the official banking partner with Nawaloka Hospitals and Hameedias have been named as the official medical support partner and the running number provider for the athletes.

It is expected to be three days of action filled athletics at the Sugathadasa Stadium as students of various International Schools around the island compete for glory and for their alma mater.
