Galle Football League U19’s progressed to the next round with a 3-1 win in the 2nd leg against Kalutara Football League U19’s in the Junior Inter League Championship at Vernon Fernando Stadium, Kalutara.

Galle brought a 2-1 advantage from the 1st leg and went on to progress with a 5-2 aggregate.

The hosts seemed quite enthusiastic to gain the early advantage in the game but the passing and ball control shown however, did not help their cause.

Kalutara FL players showed poor communication and passing throughout the match, which largely contributed their demise.

The visitors started to gain momentum towards the 10th minute, which made the home team a bit fuzzy. They started playing into the hands of the opponents too often and throwing foul challenges at them which resulted in a couple of yellow cards.

Mohamed Mazeer got one in the 11th minute and Mohamed Ashmal got one in the 43rd minute for kneeing an opposition player while trying to head a goal kick.

Galle managed to make the most out of the penalty offered by the referee, putting it in the lower right corner of the Kalutara goal.

Galle League had players watching every opposition player throughout the match, which gave Kalutara players no other option but to try to pass through them, which gave ample opportunity for the visitors to scoop the ball for themselves.

Anjula Udesh De Zoysa stepped in and scored a goal for Galle in the 23rd minute. The goalkeeper from Kalutara, Mohamed Mishahil just stood there watching the ball hit the net lower towards the middle of the goal.

The second half kicked off bringing more misfortune for Kalutara as Govinda Sadeep nudged the ball into their goal trying to clear.

Galle kept their goal inside a fortress made by a strong defense which Kalutara League players found hard to penetrate. The last-minute goal from Nilesh Kavinda was a silver lining in a rather embarrassing evening for the Kalutara lads.

Maseer from Kalutara League was sent off the ground by the referee after issuing him a second yellow card for foul play. Ashmal followed him with a second yellow card for indecent behavior and aggression against the referee.

R.A.Tharanga, Mohamed Musammil and A.W.Sifadeen were the referees for the match.
