SLC Chief Executive Officer Ashley De Silva, speaking at a media conference held to relaunch “Cricket Aid” expressed that although Eranga is technically allowed to play international cricket for the next 14 days during which he is required to get tested, he will probably be unavailable as the next Test begins in a few days.

“Because the 14 day period and the Test match are overlapping, it is highly unlikely that he will be able to play. There is a protocol in place for such situations so we are following it.”

He went on to say that since there are 10 more days until the next match starts, the SLC is looking to send a replacement to England as soon as possible.

Uncapped Chaminda Bandara to replace injured Chameera

He declined to give a clear answer as to whether Chaminda Bandara, who has already been named as the replacement for Dushmantha Chameera in the media, has in fact been given the go ahead by Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara.

“Once the selectors nominate someone, they send it directly to the minister; even we don’t know their nominations. I, myself, found out about Chaminda Bandara from the press.”

The SLC CEO went on to say that they are yet to decide when they should bring Eranga back to the country so that he may be sent to a testing facility as soon as possible.
