Dilruwan Perera named in 2nd Test squad

Veteran off-spinner Dilruwan Perera has been added to the Sri Lanka squad for the second Test against New Zealand which will begin on 22nd August at P Sara Oval, Colombo.

Perera was sidelined from the team for the 1st Test due to an injury and last played an international cricket match in February against Australia at Canberra.

So far, the 37-year-old off-spinner has played 38 Tests with 153 wickets to his name. Perera was a major cog in Sri Lanka’s engine during their whitewash of South Africa at home in 2018.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s star off-spinner Akila Dananjaya, who has been reported for a suspect bowling action following the 1st Test at Galle, will undergo the biomechanics assessment on the 28th August in Chennai.

Dananjaya shined in the last Test, picking up 5 wickets in New Zealand’s 1st innings, which ultimately paved the way for a Sri Lankan victory at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. He may not play the 2nd Test despite being eligible to bowl in the upcoming Test match according to ICC rules.
