The 12th annual hockey encounter between Ladies’ College and Bishop’s College will be held on the 22nd of October 2016 at the Astro Turf grounds in Colombo from 2:00pm onwards. The encounter will start off with the Under 17 match and then followed by the final match for the evening; the Under 19 match.
This encounter has become entrenched in tradition where even though rivalry is evident it has paved the way to strengthen the bond between the two schools. It also has an eleven year old history and has been an annual encounter since 2005. Ladies’ College has been able to grab on 7 occasions, whereas Bishop’s College has won the title twice. In the years’ 2010 & 2014, both schools were declared joint champions.
Last year, the matches took place on the 03rd of October at the Astro Turf Grounds, where Ladies’ College was able to defeat Bishop’s College 1-0 in the Under 19 category, as well as the Under 17 category, taking home the overall championship.
The Bishop’s College Under 19 team captained by Umaya Samaranayake was able to dominate the game throughout however since they lacked the finishing touches they were unable to clinch the title. This allowed Anushka Gunasekara of Ladies’ College, to score a goal within the first half of the game.
Ladies’ College Under 17 team captained by Apsari Hendavitharana won the category title with a score of 1-0, the goal was scored by Heshanthi Munasinha, despite the fight put up by the Bishop’s College team captained by Amasha Saraph.
Thus Ladies’ College was able to take home the overall championship for the 11th Annual Hockey Encounter.

The chief guest for this event will be Mrs. Hiranthi De Silva, the Hockey Captain of Bishop’s College for the year 1982.
