Anika Seneviratne clenches maiden women’s clay court title

Anika Seneviratne claimed the women’s open crown of the inaugural clay court National Tennis Tournament 2018 organized by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association this evening. She edged out fellow Fed Cup teammate Savini Jayasuriya to go down in history as the first ever Women’s Champion in the all new ‘A’ grade Clay Court Nationals initiative.

The Sri Lankan Junior National Women’s Tennis Team pulled off a spectacular week of top class performances

In a knockout draw of 16, Anika was named top seed with Janali Manamperi as the 2nd seed. Awarded a bye in the first round, Anika had no trouble making her way in to the finals with easy wins over Nathasha Munaweera, Tuvini De Alwis and finally Savini Jayasuriya to claim the championship. The final score stood at 6/3, 6/4.

The Men’s final will take place tomorrow afternoon with Davis Cup representatives Sankha Athukorala and Dineshkanthan Thangarajah taking the court to battle it out for the first ever Men’s title to the tournament.
