The fourth day of the All-Island Schools Games recorded three new records at Bogambara today.

It was rather a competitive day in field events. The High Jump,  Long Jump and the Pole vault events were closely competed with about 15 Athletes winning or qualifying  to win Milo colours for their respective events. The 4x400m relays were completed in the evening session which was the most interesting of the track events.

Poornima Jayamali of Western Province made history with an impressive height in the women’s U19 High Jump with a height of 1.74m. The record that was broken was by a western province girl with a height of 1.65m. In the U19 Girls Long Jump Ridma Nishadi who is also an Athlete with Milo colours broke a record of 5.50m after she recorded a distance with 5.85m. She was an athlete of the Sourthern Province of Dharmashoka Vidyala.

J. Anintha was the last Athlete of the day to set a meet record at the pole vault of the U21 Girls event held this evening.

At the start of the day, the Pole vault of the under 17 Boys’ were carried out where A.Puvitharan of the Northern province who recorded a 3.80m while R.Jathusan and U.Salaksan were awarded the second and third places with jumps of 3.60m and 3.55m. Ridma Nishadi the record holder won the event in the long jump U19 while the second and the third places were awarded to Wasana Chathurangi and S.Aharani. In the U21 girls Javelin throw with an impressive throw of 36.25m I.Kavindi won the event as well as colors for the particular event. T K Rathnayake and J Aniththa won the respective second and the third places.

The heats of the 200m were carried out in the morning session of the fourth day which consumed most of the morning.

The evening session of the day started with the Shot-putt of the U19 Boys’ Chamal Kumarasiri of the Western province was closely followed by Roshan Dhammika of the Sabaragamuwa province and Rachintha Perera of the Western Province for the second and the third places.

The 4x400m finals were carried out at the evening session of the day across all the age groups of the Games. Walala A.Rathnayake teams of the central province won almost all the events across all the age groups except when a Trinity College won the U15 event and Mari Stella won the U19 Boys event and when St.Benedicts Boys won the U17 Boys’ event. The triple Jump of the U17 Girls was won by Prasadi Lakshani of the western province. P. Karunanayake and P. Samarathunga won the second and third places of the event. They were representing Sabaragamuwa and North Western Province.

Day 05 of the All Island Schools Games will have the semi finals and the finals of the 200m. All is set for another exciting day at Bogambara with a bag of medals to be given tomorrow as well.
