Second round of fixtures in the 27th Mercantile Cricket Associations’ premier league were conducted today (15) in Colombo with the participation of 6 teams out of the 7-participating teams in the A division.

MAS Holdings – Unichela Vs Sri Lanka Under 19s
Sri Lanka U19s’ 2nd assignment in the MCA Premier League worked off between MAS Holdings and Unichela at the P Sara Oval, Colombo as the regular weather interruptions shortened the game to a 45- over contest.
Sri Lanka U19 skipper Nipun Dananjaya invited MAS Holdings to bat first after winning the toss and reaped the rewards as they managed to restrict the opposition to 178 for the loss of 9 wickets. Reputed batsmen Lahiru Madushanka and Niroshan Dickwella top scored for MAS Holdings with 36 and 30. Impressive right arm seamer Amshi de Silva and off spinner from Kaluthara Vidyalaya, Avishka Lakshan shared 3-wickets a piece.

The game was no longer continued after the end of the 1st innings due rain as the umpires decided to call off the match.

John Keells A Vs Hayleys
Wicket keeper batsman Manoj Sarathchandras’ excellent half century put John Keells A in a decent position (188/6) against Hayleys before the skies opened up above the MCA Ground, Colombo.
Hayleys secured the benefit of the toss and unsurprisingly, asked the opposition to have a go first at their bowling line-up in the already damped pitch. Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne provided a good start to John Keells but perished for 37 before Sarathchandra rescued them with a stroke-filled 71.

Unfortunately, the 1st innings was limited to only 36.5 overs as the rain interrupted the game then onwards and the game was announced as a no-result.

LB Finance Vs Sampath Bank
The 3rd fixture of the day, was battled between Sampath Bank and LB Finance at the Colts ground, Colombo as this game too, came to an early end due to bad weather.
Sampath Bank won the toss and decided to field first, as did all the teams today, and managed to steamroll the opposition to just 139 inside 32 overs. Experienced campaigners, DushmanthaChameera and Malinda Pushpakumara inflicted the most damage for LB Finance as they picked up 3 wickets each.

Chasing 140 to win, the collapse of the Sampath Bank top order was caused by right arm seamer Shiran Fernando who became the highest wicket taker in the recently concluded One-day series – Bangladesh A tour of Sri Lanka. His 4 wickets reduced Sampath Bank to 51/4 before the rain ruined the thrilling end to the game.
