Blue Star SC retained the number one position in the DCL 2013 Group A with a 1-0 win against Colombo FC while Army SC romped to top the Group B with a crushing 3-0 win over the Up-Country Lions.
In a keenly contested game the solitary goal of the match was scored by Blue Star’s Mohamed Ramees in the 86th minute. Army SC scored their goals through H.Widuranga in the 14th minute and a second half brace from Mohamed Izzadeen. Army has been impressive in the early stages of the tournament scoring 10 goals in just 3 matches while maintaining a perfect record at the back.
Priyankara Silva scored a hat-trick helping Don Bosco gain 3 points against New Youngs SC. After a goalless first half the spectators were entertained to 5 goals in the second half. New Youngs took the lead minutes after half time through Hasith Priyankara but were unable to maintain the pressure as Susil Pradeep was sent off for a second booking. Taking advantage of the extra man Don Bosco scored 3 in the final 15 minutes.
Ratnam SC prevailed in a six goal thriller at the Longdon Park. Both teams played attacking games with beautiful ball movement. M. Yogaraja scored a hat-trick and E.B.Channa netted the 4th minute opener for the winners. For Java Lane Mohamed Jeebdeen and Mohamed Ali scored in the 25th and 61st minute respectively. Both teams were locked at two goals apiece heading into the final few minutes but Yogaraja’s strikes in the 89th and in added time made the final score 4-2.
Navy SC thrashed unbeaten Matara City Club 4-0 at the Navy Grounds in Welisara. A first minute goal from P.J.S. Prasath set the tone of the match for the hosts. Matara CC lacked commitment throughout the game as Navy dominated the 90 minutes. A brace from M.S.C. Silva in the 40th and 42nd minutes saw Navy take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Just like in the first half Prasath was at it again in the opening minute of the second half as he made the scores 4-0.
Police Sports Club recorded their first win of the tournament with a hard fought 4-2 win over Kalutara Park SC. It was the visitors who took the lead in the 14th minute through Lakpriya Fernando. Police responded with two goals within a minute from Nilantha Pathirana and Bandara Munasinghe. Bandara Munasinghe scored again just after the restart and Former National Player Rajitha Jayavilal strike halfway through the second half made it 4-1 for the hosts. T.G. Wickramathanthri netted the second for the visitors in the dying minutes.
Solid SC maintained their undefeated record with a 1-1 draw against Renown. It seemed as if the 16th minute goal from Mohamed Rizny was enough for Renown secure a win but a well taken strike by G.S. Prabodh with 10 minutes remaining rescued a point for the Anuradhapura team.
Nandimithra SC and Pelicans SC shared a point each in their match played at Kew Point Road. Aravinda Silva opened the scoring for Nandimithra in the 9th minute and M. Ovalid equalized in the 38th for the visitors.
The matches between Saunders v Air Force and Super Sun v Negombo Youth had to be called off owing to inclement weather and water logged pitch.
