Women’s Beach Volleyball team make their debut at Commonwealth Games

The two Sri Lankan Beach Volleyball teams are ready to set foot at the Commonwealth Games 2022, which is to be held from the 28th of July 2022 to the 8th of August 2022.

Out of the 54 countries, 24 countries have got the green light to partake in Beach Volleyball. Sri Lanka is the only team from Asia to qualify for this competition by virtue of the tournaments they conducted and ranking points gained.

The volleyball championships will be at Smithfield Arena, the games will commence on the 30th of July 2022.

The Sri Lanka Men’s team is categorized under Group ‘B’, and the Women’s team is categorized under Group ‘A’. The Women’s team will play against Australia and the Men’s team against Canada, the two countries being two silver medalists in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Furthermore, the teams of these countries have elevated their respective country’s name on many occasions, with Australia winning the silver medal and Canada placing 5th at the Tokyo Olympics.

Although Sri Lanka will be up against powerful European teams, they are determined to make an impact.

The Sri Lanka Men’s team comprises the two polished campaigners, Malintha Yapa and Ashen Rashmika, while the Women’s team will feature Chathurika Weerasinghe and Deepika Bandara. Dev Randoo And Pubudu Ekanayake will take on duties as the two Coaches.
