Six matches of the Singer Schools U-19 Division 1 two-day cricket tournament 2017/18 were conducted today around the Island.

Prince of Wales vs St. Anthony’s College, Wattala

Prince of Wales rattled the boys from Wattala, as they claimed 17 wickets inside two sessions to romp home, against a fighting unit that defeated Isipathana College last week. Kaumal Nanayakkara claimed 7 wickets in the match, while Tharindu Peiris finished with 8-for as he took 6 for 29 in the second innings to demolish St. Anthony’s College, Wattala, in their group ‘B’ encounter that ended in Wattala.

Prince of Wales vs St. Anthony’s College, Wattala The hard-hitting left hander, who also features in the Premier League Tier ‘B’ tournament, Vishva Chathuranga, cracked a brilliant century to steer the Cambrian lads to a strong position, in the group ‘B’ encounter which began today in Wattala.

The Panadura boys had a tough game against a strong Mahanama outfit as they tasted a heavy defeat in the group ‘B’ encounter that concluded in Bandaragama. 92 and 67 are the scores that St. John’s managed when they were given the chance to bat as Mahanama enjoyed a convincing innings & 64-run victory.

The lads from Galle opted to bat first at Bambalapitiya as two dominant schools fight it out in the group ‘C’ encounter which began today. Thaveesha Abishek and Sandun Mendis stroked half-tons as the Richmondites got bowled out for a modest 203 in 76 overs. In reply, the hosts were in control as umpires call it a day.
