St.Joseph’s College,Colombo annihilated a resource-less Wickramabahu College,Gampola 7-1 thanks to a five star performance by Sachintha Maduranga, in U19 Division I tie worked off at the Moragasmulla grounds.
The Josephians dominated from the outset as they managed to pin their opponents to their own territory. However, Wickramabahu College managed to hold off St.Joseph’s to keep the tie scoreless up until the latter stages of the first half.
The Josephian pressure paid off eventually as Sachintha Maduranga broke the deadlock on the stroke of the 22nd minute. It didn’t take much longer until St.Joseph’s doubled their lead when Sachintha once again got in on the act to score his second in the 25th minute.
With a spring in his step Sachintha went onto bag an impressive first half hat-trick in the 32nd minute as Wickramabahu seemed all at sea and unable to contain the rampant Josephians.

Wickramabahu College, who hardly made the St.Joseph’s goalkeeper break a sweat during the first half, managed to pull a shock goal back in the 51st minute when M.A. Seepan steered the ball home.
St.Joseph’s didn’t seem to be taking any prisoners as they came storming back after losing their three goal cushion. Sachintha once again proved to be pivotal in attack bagging his impressive 4th in the 52nd minute.
St.Joseph’s simply ran riot from that point onwards as they piled up a fifth, sixth and seventh in quick succession to put the game beyond Wickramabahu College. Sachintha managed to add another to his tally to round off a five star performance with Asela Madushan and Nimesh Salinda managing to get in on the act.
St.Joseph’s put away their disappointment from their previous game against Maris Stella as they bounced back with an impressive performance to keep their semifinal hopes alive.
