There were some electrified table tennis matches played at the Indoor Stadium, St Thomas College, Mt Lavinia, as the Badminton Championship of the 49th National Sports Festival concluded successfully. The event was organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports with the collaboration of the Department of Sports Development.
After a dominant display, Western Province emerged as the overall champions by clinching mixed doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles and women’s team events. Apart from that, Western ladies clinched the Women’s Table Tennis Championship with a clean sweep. Further, table tennis prodigy Chamalsha Dewmi of Western Province was awarded as the “Most Outstanding Women’s Player” of the tournament.

In the same manner, Southern Men emerged as the champions in the Men’s Table Tennis segment with another clean sweep. Ex-University of Sri Jayawardenepura player and national champion, Chameera Ginige of Southern Province clinched the “Most Outstanding Men’s Player award.
