Ahead of the 2018 season, Wesley College presented their 1st XV players their playing jersey in celebratory fashion, in a ceremony that took place in the College auditorium last evening, in the presence of the distinguished guests, officials and the parents of the players.

Wesley College has been a dominant presence in the Sri Lanka rugby arena as of late and the team since their promotion in 2013 have gone from strength to strength. Last year’s team under the captaincy of Dennister Goonetilake finished 4th overall in the league, which was a record high for the team in their rugby accolades.

The team for 2017 will be led by senior campaigner Daiyan Sabar and under the guidance of coach Paul Toia, the Wesleyites look to improve on last year’s success.

“I am glad to be a part of this Wesley team and this year we have a young team as we get ready for the schools rugby season” added the New Zealander, whose efforts with the team brought about a complete turnaround.

“They love the coaching staff and the coaches being, myself Dula (Dulanjana Wijesinghe) and Rizah (Rizah Mubarak) love being with the boys themselves. Probably in the second half of the season, I expect to see the team bond together and play as a team” he further added.
