Fighting back, Wesley’s skipper led the fight back with a brilliant piece of footwork to score their first try. With a try in place, Wesley scored yet again when a quick to react Avishka Lee took advantage of a quick tap to score the second in quick succession. Both conversions did not fall through.

With an even 14-10 contest in line, Trinity’s Lashane Wijesuriya and Mohamed Ikram scored two tries in quick succession to take themselves to 28 points.

Just before lemons, it was Diluksha Dange who led the charge forward allowing Rashean Bandaranayaka to score on the outside for try.

While five tries came for Trinity in the first half, Welsey managed to get three with the third coming from the efforts of the other Lee-twin Avantha Lee.

Lashane Wijesuriya converted 4 out of the 5 tries scored while Avishka Lee had the privilege of converting only 1 try.

Half-time: 33 (5T 4C) to Wesley 17 (3T 1C)

The first half was a close encounter with both teams going head to head but in the second half, Trinity hit the pedal as they drifted clearly away from the opposition to compile a massive score.

Murshid Zubair went over for an important score for the Wesleyites but that was not enough to prevent the Lions from scoring. (33-24)

Tries kept coming from the travelling Lions with two magnificent tries being worked off the efforts of Naween Rajaratnam and Anuka Boyagoda.

The two tries from Rajaratnam and Boyagoda were followed up by Gaurava Bandara and Akit Sakalasooriya as Trinity finished off at 64-24.

Trinity went on to score five more tries in the second half as Lashane Wijesuriya converted three of them.

As the referee blew for full time, Trinity had themselves a dream start to the league winning the first match 64-24.

Wesley College came out strong in the first half but could not hold on to the Trinity force. Trinity seems to have escalated their game under the new coach with their basics being given emphasis especially in ball handling and passing and that won the day for the Lions.

For Trinity, Anuka Boyagoda was exceptional marshalling the forwards and back to the right space to gain extra meters.

Full-time score: Trinity 64 (10T 7C) to Wesley 24 (4T 2C)
