Defensive Masterclass for the Double Blues get them their 2nd Win of the League

Dialog Schools Rugby League 2025

Wesley College faced D.S. Senanayake College in a well contested affair at Longdon place on 15th July 2025. It was the Double Blues and their unmatched defense and attack that blew away DS 29-10.

There was a slight drizzle before kick off, but it ceased, as the Dons kicked the game off. Wesley spoilt their opponents lineout and won possession back, before Wesley Flanker Naham Hemachandra charged down a kick and scored the first try of the game. Abdul Haadhi knocked over the extras to give Wesley the early lead. (Wesley 07 – 00 D.S. Senanayake)

It didn’t take too long for the Double Blues to get their second. Going back to their trusty rolling maul, they steam rolled over the DS defense as Abdul Rahman dotted it down. Haadhi knocked over the conversion and extended Wesley’s early lead. (Wesley 14 – 00 D.S. Senanayake)

The Dons looked to apply pressure and were fortunate to receive a penalty right in front of the sticks. Tatheera Perera got DS the 3, and after 10 minutes of attack they came back with points. (Wesley 14 – 03 D.S. Senanayake)

Wesley were quick to react, and after a couple of phases of hard carries from their forwards, Naham Hemachandra spotted the gap and darted through the defense to score his second. Haadhi put the kick over. (Wesley 21 – 03 D.S. Senanayake)

DS looked to threaten the Wesley defense before lemons. But numerous unforced errors cut their attack in half.

Half Time  – Wesley College 21 (3T, 3C) lead D.S. Senanayake 03 (1P)

DS took on from where they left off. They looked to penetrate the Wesley defense. Although Wesley lost a player to the bin, after around 10 minutes of attacking, DS spilled the ball, and Wesley winger Prarthana Rodrego ran a good 40m. They set up a couple of phases before Abdul Haadhi went into the pocket and nailed a peach of a drop goal. DS were made to pay for their unforced errors. (Wesley 24 – 03 D.S. Senanayake)

DS needed to score and they were with possession and in the right part of the field. Wesley were dropped down to 13 men. After numerous attempts to crack open the Wesley defense, DS Prop forward Thimeth Bogahawatte found his way to the line. Perera knocked the conversion over to cut the deficit. (Wesley 24 – 10 D.S. Senanayake)

The boys from DS had at least 90% of possession in the 2nd half. But all they could get was a try. Wesley were clinical, and were quick to turn defense into attack.

Some slick hands down the line opened up a gap for the Wesley winger Prarthana Rodrego who added the finishing touches and went over for a try. The conversion from the tough angle went astray. (Wesley 29 – 10 D.S. Senanayake)

Wesley had a fantastic first half in attack, and even though they didn’t have ball in hand in the second half, they managed to hold their fort strong.

Full Time – Wesley College 29 (4T, 3C, 1DG) beat D.S. Senanayake 10 (1T, 1C, 1P)
