SJC v WC

Wesley College made easy work out of St. Joseph’s College, defeating the Blue and White in an intense Dialog Schools’ Rugby encounter at Longdon Place, winning 23 (3T 1C 2P) – 10 (2T) and booking their place in the Cup Segment in round two.

The game began with both sides showing strong defensive structure, as the opening exchanges were dominated by physical forward play and territorial kicking. St. Joseph’s attempted to establish momentum through their forwards, but Wesley’s defensive line remained composed and difficult to break down.

Wesley struck first midway through the opening half curtersy Jayaweera, capitalizing on sustained pressure close to the line to cross over for the opening try. The conversion was unsuccessful, giving Wesley a 5-0 lead.

St. Joseph’s responded positively and eventually leveled proceedings through a well-worked try from Christeno Anthony after several phases of pressure inside the Wesley 22. (SJC 05-05 WC)

At 5-5, the contest appeared evenly poised, but Wesley gradually began to take control through superior game management and efficient use of possession. Their forwards consistently won the gain line battle, while the backs exploited space effectively in open play.

The second half belonged largely to Wesley College, who added further points through a combination of structured attacking phases and accurate kicking.

Two penalties off the boot of Fawas Mohomad meant Wesley pulled away further. (SJC 05-16 WC)

Their defensive discipline also stood out, as they restricted St. Joseph’s attacking opportunities and forced several handling errors during key moments of the game.

Liam Onasiz scored a quick thinking try as he picked and went to crash over in the 65th minute as Wesley put the game to bed following the conversion from Fawas. (SJC 05-23 WC)

In the dying embers of the game, St. Joseph’s worked their line and found Anthony scoring his second, however it was all too little too late as the game was broguht to an end.

By full time, Wesley had established a comfortable 23-5 lead, capping off an impressive performance built on tactical discipline, physical dominance, and clinical finishing.
