“We’ll not let inexperience be an excuse, so we train harder than ever. I have high hopes and so does the team” – Newly appointed Rugby Captain of Wesley College.

Wesley College Colombo has appointed Daiyan Sabar as the Captain of the College first XV Rugby team for the year 2018.

Daiyan Sabar will be given the privilege of playing his fourth and final year, as Captain of his Alma Mater, raising the hopes of the whole of Wesley for a shot at the League title. Daiyan takes over duties of leadership two years after his brother, Zayan Sabar took the lead in 2016.

Daiyan, who is mostly known as ‘Dee’ is undoubtedly the most experienced campaigner in the new Wesley outfit. Young Sabar, was a member of the U-18 Sevens squad that toured to Bahamas for the Junior Commonwealth Championship and also represented the Junior Tuskers at the U19 Asia Championship last December.

Playing in the Number 8 position, Sabar will look to drive his pack towards victory despite having an inexperienced three quarter line. Backed up with a highly qualified coaching staff – Sabar and his team will be a definite threat to any opposition with their newly polished skills.

Speaking to ThePapare.com, Sabar added these words, “Though we’re lacking in physicality, the boys are fit and giving the team everything they have. We’ll not let inexperience be an excuse, so we train harder than ever. I have high hopes and so does the team.”

Finishing in 4th in the concluded season, a tough task lies ahead of young Sabar if he is to take the league title from Colombo 07 to Borella. But there is no doubt about the potential Sabar and his young team possess.
