Lying on the boundary of Sabaragamuwa province, Udawalawe is a National Park that was created to provide solitude for the displaced animals from the construction of the Udawalawe Resovoir.

Over the years Udawalawe National Park has become an important habitat for Sri Lanka’s water birds and elephants. This National Park has also become a popular tourist attraction both locally and internationally and is the third most visited national park of the country.

On the 11th of September a few kilometers away from the Udawalawe  National Park, thrill seeking enthusiasts will witness “Walawe Super cross 2016” organized by Sri Lanka Army Electrical & Mechanical Engineering Regiment (SLEME) & The Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club (SLMCC). This will be the 6th consecutive year the Walawe Supercross will pit the Islands best riders and drivers against each other. All proceeds from the event will be directed towards the wellbeing of the families of the fallen heroes of SLAEME and the welfare of the regiments current and the disabled soldiers.

Sewanagala, a unique track in the Islands racing circuit will see over 145 competing at   11 car events and 13 motor cycle final events on the 11th of September with the timing races to be held on the 10th of September.

Sewanagala race track is a clockwise track whereas many of the Islands tracks are anticlockwise. This track offers a different challenge to all the participants with two tricky corners where only the brave fancy a swerve.

Walawe Supercross which is soon becoming a favorite amongst the competitors & fans alike since its inception has seen some of the island’s well-known names in motor racing involved in spine tingling races that have thrilled the crowds. This year all eyes will be on the two that have taken the island’s racing by storm. Ishan the current leading rider in the National Championship the MX 125cc, Mx 250cc category and Ushan Perera the current leader in the SL GT Super car Competition will look to extend their dominance to the province of Sabragamuwa. Ishan has happy memories from the previous year’s edition having emerged the Best rider at Walawe Supercross 2015 while Ushan Perera will be making his debut at the event having not taken part in the competition prior to this year. It will be interesting to see how quickly Perera will adjust to the conditions while past winner at the Walawe Supercross Pasindu Peiris who has been in impressive form will pose a real threat to Kushan. The placing on the starting grid will be crucial for both these drivers. In the MX events Dassanayake will be challenged by Gayan Sandaruwan the experienced champion, Sheahan C Adikari, Evon B Gurusinghe and Shanuka Sandaruwan for honurs.
