The Prima U15 provincial tournament got underway today with five matches which took place around the country. Here’s a brief look at the five matches which concluded today.

Western Province North-Outer VS North Western Province

Dulaj Ashen’s heroics with both bat and ball guided North Western Province to an easy 7 wicket victory over Western Province North-Outer at St Joseph’s College grounds. Western province North-outer won the toss and elected to bat first. They could not pass the 200 run mark as they were bowled out for just 196 runs in 47.4 overs. Dulaj Ashen was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 22 while Avishka Tharindu was the lone hero for the Western boys by scoring 91 runs. North Western looked in control right from the word go. Dulaj scored an unbeaten 88 and he was well supported by Muditha Premadas who scored 63 runs. They only needed 41.3 overs to get over the line with seven wickets in hand.

North Central Province VS Western Province South-Outer

A dominating performance by Western Province South-Outer saw them securing an easy 7 wicket victory over North Central Province at Panagoda Army Grounds. North Central won the toss and elected to bat first but their decision went horribly wrong when the wickets started to fall at regular intervals. They only managed to score 131 runs  being bowled out in 38.4 overs. Ashan Dilhara and Avishka Lakshan bagged 3 wickets each for the Western boys. Western Province South-Outer went hard from the word go and they took only 18.2 overs to cross the line. Sheron Liyanage top scored with an unbeaten 64 to guide his team over the line.

Western Province Central VS Western Province North

It was a low scoring affair between two Western province teams at Royal College Grounds. Western Province Central won the toss and elected to bat first. It was a struggle for them from the beginning as wickets tumbled at regular intervals. However, they managed to post 168 runs before getting cleaned up. In reply Western Province North made life harder for themselves after losing quick wickets early on. They were not allowed to recover from the early losses as Yasiru Kasthuriarachchi and Sampath Nissanka bundled out Western Province North for just 97 runs. Yasiru bagged 5 wickets for just 9 runs and Sampath Nissanka bagged 3 wickets for just 16 runs. Western Province Central won the match by 71 runs.

Eastern Province VS Central Province

Central Province showed absolute dominance in their encounter against Eastern Province today at Mattegoda. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Eastern Province could only manage 130 runs in 32 overs. Midunaka Wijethilaka bagged 4 for 43 for the Central Province team. In reply Central Province got over the line in just 25.1 overs without losing any wickets with both openers Yesith Rupasinghe and Uvindu Abeysundara scoring half centuries.

Sri Jayawardanapura CMS grounds hosted this encounter between Northern Province and Uva Province. Northern won the toss and elected to bat first but they were cleaned up for just 63 runs in 22.5 overs. In reply Uva got over the line just 7.3 overs with 8 wickets in hand.
