The proceedings of Day 3 of the ASBC Asian Under-22 and Youth Boxing Championships 2025, organized by the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), concluded at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo by giving a mixed bag of results for the hosts.
In the first fight, Tajikistan’s Dovud Makhkamov who competed in the 2023 World Boxing Championships as well, took on Kyrgyzstan’s Almaz Orozbekov, who claimed a gold medal at the 2022 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. The young Kyrgyz boxer landed a few timely punches on Tajikistan’s Dovud Makhkamov to claim a victory at the U22 welterweight category (67kg) bout.

In the second bout, Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Anarbayev came to the ring against Malaysia’s Mohamed Farid Bin Muhammad Ariff Aiman at the welterweight category (67kg) bout. The Malaysian southpaw launched an exceptional attack with fierce hooks during the early stage, but Kazakhstan’s Anarbayev successfully defended and prevailed to win the battle on points.
Vimarshana Jayasinghe Ambarapola was the first Sri Lankan of the day to battle in the ring against Saudi Arabia’s Esmail Alqassimi in the next welterweight category (67kg) encounter. The Sri Lankan boxer was energetic and aggressive, but most of his punches went astray against the accurate punches from the Saudi opponent. The referee counted the Sri Lankan twice after receiving big blows in this contest, and Alqassimi comprehensively beat the local boxer.
In the next battle, Tajikistan’s Murodjon Ashuraliyev took on Saudi Arabia’s Majed in the light middleweight category (71kg), and the Tajik boxer dominated the game with electrified punches and unanimously won the battle.

Malith Bandara was the next Sri Lankan hope for the day who took on inexperienced Kazakh boxer Agazhan Kadyr in the light middleweight category (71kg). But Kazakh was exceptional due to his powerful jabs, which resulted in two referee counts during the first round. The helpless Sri Lankan boxer had to give up the fight, which was a big blow for the Sri Lankan medal hopes.
Sri Lanka’s promising medal hope, Usaith Yazmin Mohommed took the field against Saudi Arabia’s Nayif Almowallad in the middleweight category (75kg). The Sri Lankan Elite National Champion dominated the first round as he made full use of the height advantage and reached with ease for his opponent. In the middle, the Sri Lankan launched a relentless attack with accurate jabs on the target, and in the latter stage, the Saudi boxer tried hard with some wild swings, which ended up with him being exhausted. The home crowd was jubilant with this victory, as Usaith secured a medal finish even if he fails during the next matches.
Next, the Sri Lankan boxer Keshan Sandeepa Bandara fought against New Zealand’s Roman Viney in the cruiserweight category (86kg). The experienced New Zealander dominated the fight as the technicality of his jabs was at the next level. Later in the game, the Sri Lankan corner abandoned their unmatched battle by throwing in the towel.
In the women’s featherweight category (57kg) encounter, Sri Lanka’s Kajinthini Loganathan battled against India’s experienced women’s boxer Nancy. With the height advantage, the Indian dominated the battle and advanced to the next round.
Next, Kazakhstan’s Anar Tursynbek took on India’s Shivani at the women’s lightweight category (60kg) bout. At the end of the fight, the Kazakh outclassed and eliminated the Indian with ease.
In the final battle of the day, Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Uldana Taubay faced Vietnam’s Tran Thi Tuyet Tran in the women’s U22 welterweight category (66kg) encounter. The Kazakh lady launched a relentless attack in the first round, and she finished the battle in the second round as the referee stopped the fight after counting.
