The Baseball Championship of the XV Sri Lanka University Games 2025, organised by the Rajarata University, was successfully concluded at the Rajarata University Grounds, Mihintale, Anuradhapura. The championship concluded with exhilarating performances, highlighting the growing competitiveness and high standard of Baseball within the government universities. At the end of the tournament, the lads from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura displayed incredible skill, determination and teamwork to clinch the glorious championship.
In the preliminary round, the universities were pooled for the following four groups.
Group A: University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, South Eastern University
Group B: University of Moratuwa, University of Ruhuna, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka
Group C: University of Kelaniya, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka
Group D: University of Peradeniya, University of Colombo
After some exciting Baseball, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the University of Moratuwa, the University of Colombo and Sabaragamuwa University cruised into the Semi Finals as the unbeaten group tops. Then, the South Eastern University, University of Ruhuna, University of Kelaniya and University of Peradeniya also joined with them as the second seed team of the respective groups.

In the 1st Quarter Final, the University of Peradeniya walked into the Semi Finals with a stunning 22 – 05 win over Sabaragamuwa University, ending their winning streak. Then the University of Colombo showcased an excellent performance to send the University of Kelaniya side out of the competition with a 15 – 08 victory. In the 3rd Quarter Final, the last edition finalist, the University of Moratuwa, had a walk in the park against South Eastern University to seal their spot in the Semis. In the 4th Quarter Final, the spirited lads from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura thumped the University of Ruhuna as 18 – 05 to reach the next stage.
The lads from the University of Moratuwa posted a solid 09 – 03 victory over their Kandyan arch-rivals, the University of Peradeniya, in the first Semi Final. The second Semi Final definitely had the worth of a Final, as two university Baseball powerhouses battled in a fierce manner for supremacy. After a see-saw battle along with a nail-biting finish, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura managed to edge out the defending champions from the tournament by just a one-point margin.
In the Bronze Finals, the defending champions who missed the Final after a thriller, fought against the lads from Peradeniya to regain the lost glory. As expected, the tough and talented Colombo outfit was too good for the lads from the University of Peradeniya, as they went on to post a 23 – 15 solid victory to secure a podium finish.
In the much-awaited Final, the runners-up of the last edition, the University of Moratuwa, took the field against the energetic University of Sri Jayewardenepura outfit. During the game batters, the pitchers and fielders from both sides gave their maximum effort to secure a glorious victory for their university. However, after a close tussle, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura were on top with a handy margin of four points and crowned as the Baseball Champions of the XV Sri Lanka University Games 2025.
The champion side trained under the experienced Coach Vihanga de Silva, who shaped the Sri Lankan Under 15 Baseball outfit previously as the Head Coach. Further, apart from the unmatched talent, the strategic thinking and insight of the Captain, Royalist Pinimal Lakshan, and the Vice Captain, the Royalist Nimsara Jayakody, were instrumental to this magnificent achievement.
