Two traditional encounters (Royal College vs Sebastian’s College and S. Thomas’ College vs St. Peter’s College) ended in draws today (02nd July), at Colombo and Mount Lavinia
Having won the toss, Royal College only managed to post 113 for their first innings as Mahen Silva and Sandeesh Fernando ripped through the opposition batting lineup, sharing all the ten wickets between them.
In reply, the visitors also struggled with the bat in their first essay as they posted 173 runs, but managed to take a 60-run lead over the hosts. Sadisha Rajapaksha was the star performer with the ball for Royal College as he snared 5 wickets for 37 runs.
Royal College showed much better batting display in the second innings as they posted 236 runs in 98 overs, with Ramiru Perera top-scoring with 52 runs. Sandeesh Fernando who starred with the ball in the first innings for the visitors once again stood up with the ball picking up 4 more wickets.
Meanwhile, the traditional encounter between St. Peter’s College and S. Thomas’ College also ended in a draw at Mount Lavinia with the hosts taking first innings honors. S. Thomas’ College posted a massive score of 420/9 for their first innings in reply to St. Peter’s College’s 279. Aneesh Kamalchandra missed out on a well-deserved century as he top scored for the hosts with a 96-run knock.
The traditional encounter between Nalanda College and Dharmaraja College commenced today at Nalanda College Grounds. A disciplined bowling effort led by Dineth Samaraweera (3/33), Sajitha Vithanage (3/37) and Lisura Sigera (2/29) helped Nalanda College restrict Dharmaraja College to 164. In reply, the hosts posted 94/4 at the close of play on day one.
