Six 2-day encounters of U19 Inter Schools Cricket Tournament were played today (30th December), at several venues across the island.

The traditional encounter between Prince of Wales College and D. S. Senanayake College ended in a draw today at D. S. Senanayake College Grounds. After being 50/1 at stumps on day one, the hosts went on to post a solid total of 339 runs on the board for their first innings.

Senura Silva and Himantha Keshan were the chief contributors with the bat, as they made classy half-centuries for the hosts. The Cambrians began their 2nd innings 55 runs ahead, and posted 113/3 at the close of play on day two. The centurion of the first innings, Sumalka Fernando, once again stood out with the bat, scoring an unbeaten half-century.

The traditional encounter between Nalanda College and Royal College also ended in a draw today at Royal College Grounds. After being 143/6 at stumps on day one, Nalanda College were bowled out for 173 runs for their first innings in the morning session on day two.

Nethwin Dharmarathne’s excellent bowling spell for Royal College stood out as he snared 7 wickets for 25 runs. After faltering with the bat in the first innings, the hosts showcased a much better batting display in their 2nd essay, scoring 218 runs for 6 wickets, setting a target of 151 runs for the visitors.

Dasis Manchanayake was the star performer with the bat for Royal College with his magnificent 80-run knock. The visitors were 91/1 in 15 overs, when umpires called stumps on day two.

Lahiru Amarasekara’s all-round brilliance helped St. Joseph’s College record a convincing 10-wicket win over Maris Stella College in their traditional encoovers which ended today at Maris Stella Ground, Thimbirigaskatuwa.

Amarasekara starred with the ball, taking a match bag of 8 wickets for 94 runs while contributing a vital 44 runs with the bat in Joes’ first innings.

Dasith Senal’s brilliant bowling performance steered Isipathana College to a 83-run victory against Dharmapala College in their Tier ‘B’ 2-day encounter, worked off today at Dharmapala College Grounds, Pannipitiya.

Senal was outstanding with the ball for the victorious Isipathana College as he managed to claim a match bag of 11 wickets for 89 runs.
