10 two-day matches of the U19 Schools Cricket Tournament were played yesterday (21st February) at various grounds across the island.
The traditional encounter between Royal College and Ananda College played for the 79th L.D.H. Peiris Memorial Trophy ended in a draw today at the SSC Grounds in Colombo.
After being put into bat first, Royal College decided to declare their 1st innings on 212/7 with Ovina Ambanpola (60) scoring a half-century.
In reply, Ananda College lost wickets at regular intervals as they were bowled out for 184. Viduna Wijebandara, who was the only one who batted with a positive approach, made a 109-ball 81 with 10 fours. Dan Poddiwela was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/28 for Royal.
When stumps were called on day 2, Royal College were 30/1.
A traditional encounter between Richmond College (Galle) & Dharmasoka College (Ambalangoda) commenced today at Dombagoda.
Richmond College posted mammoth 311/6 after Dharmasoka College put them into bat first. No.5 batsman, Kavindu Nirmana was the chief scorer for them with a brilliant 110.
At the end of play on day 1, Dharmasoka College found themselves in a terrible position as they were on 61/5, still trailing by 250 runs.
