Antonians win in Kandy – Lakshan and Navod star in Galle

Singer U19 Division I Cricket Tournament 2019/20

Two group games of the Singer U19 Division I Cricket tournament 2019/20 concluded today producing just 1 result, while one more group game along with another traditional encounter kicked-off today.

The only win recorded today was of St. Anthony’s College Kandy, who defeated Dharmapala College by 7 wickets in Kandy. Day 2 began the 2nd innings of the game with an 8-run advantage for the home team. The game spanned just 51.5 overs as the Antonians bundled out Dharmapala’s 2nd innings for 118 and chased down the target of 110 in 18.4 overs. Offie Gihan Ebert’s 4 wickets and Lasika Werellagama’s half-ton were the highlights of the day.

In the other completed game, Wesley College escaped defeat in the hands of Richmond at their home ground in Borella. They started the day by avoiding follow on as they managed to end up on 98 resuming from 68/8. They then survived the strong Richmond bowling attack after conceding 166 runs for the 2nd innings in 27 overs. Richmond fell short by just 2 wickets as Sri Lanka U19 caps Sandun Mendis and Thaveesha Abhishek starred with the bat while Dilum Sudeera led the charge with the ball.

Two more Sri Lanka U19 captains displayed their prowess when their respective colleges faced each other in Galle today. Lakshan Gamage with a ton for St. Joseph’s College and Navod Paranavithana with a 5-wicket haul and an unbeaten half-century for Mahinda College ended the opening day with the game wide open for both teams.

Raveen De Silva, another Sri Lanka U19 cap excelled with a knock of 82 for Nalanda College in their traditional game against Dharmaraja College which began today in Kandy.
