Four two-day encounters of the U19 Division I Schools Cricket Tournament were played today across the island.
The ‘Tier A’ two-day encounter between D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo and S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia, ended in a draw. However, Malitha Perera’s (100) and Chenuka Randula’s (5/32) superb performance guided D.S. Senanayake College to secure a 1st innings win. Abheeth Paranawidana stood up for Thomians, picking up 9 wickets in the match, including a fifer.
St. Peter’s College, Colombo, registered a 1st innings victory in a drawn two-day traditional match against Maris Stella College, Negombo. Kanishka Ishan and Joshua Sebastian scored half-centuries for Maris Stella and St. Peter’s, respectively, while Lashmika Perera starred in a 4-fer with the ball for St. Peter’s.
In another traditional encounter, De Mazenod College, Kandana, took a 1st innings win over Isipathana College, Colombo. Kavindu Kaushalya (4/29) and Nichalo Sharon (57) were the leading performers for De Mazenod, while Tharushka Ashel and Dasith Senal each grabbed 4-fers for Isipathana.
Therefore, Trinity College, Kandy, showcased a dominant performance against St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa, in another traditional two-day encounter, which commenced today in Moratuwa. Trinitians’ no.7 batter, Jayavi Liyanagama produced a brutal century as he smashed 101 off just 86 balls while hitting 15 fours and 3 sixes.
Trinity side rescued from a position of 173/6 to post a massive 341 for 9 on day 1, courtesy of Liyanagama’s knock. Viduka Dhammage and Janith Ravishka also powered Trinity College, compiling valuable fifties, while Manuja Chanthuka managed to take 4 wickets with the ball in hand.
