The saintly arch-rivals had mixed prosperity during the weekend as Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya registered a first-innings over St. Peter’s College meanwhile St. Joseph’s College registered a stunning innings victory over Mahanama College.

Dharmapala College vs St. Peter’s College

Sri Lanka under 19 discard, Himasha Liyanage smashed 169 in 141 balls to help the visitors take major honours in their drawn encounter at Bambalapitiya.

The left-handed opener blasted the Peterite bowling to all parts of the ground but none of the other batsmen shined for the team from Pannipitiya. Off-spin duo, Taneesha Weerakoon and skipper Vinu Mohotti grabbed 3 wickets apiece.

The hosts’ in their reply were bowled out for 192. Left-handed middle order batsman Manelkar De Silva was the only spark for the Peterites scoring 79.

St. Joseph’s College vs Mahanama College
Left-arm spinning all-rounder Malshan Rodrigo starred with all-round performance as St. Joseph’s scripted an innings and 12-run victory over Mahanama College at Darley Road.

Josephians batted first and posted 220 on the scoreboard. Right-handed lower order batsman Malshan Rodrigo top scored with 43 whilst opener Revan Kelly, Shewon Fonseka and Sandaruwan Rodrigo supported with contributions of 36, 38 and 28 respectively.
In reply, the visitors were bowled out for just 111 with left-armer Harin Cooray taking 3 scalps while three other bowlers captured 2 wickets apiece.
The Darley Road boys opted to enforce the follow-on and Mahanama cracked under pressure. They were annihilated by left-arm spin of Malshan Rodrigo as they made only 97.

S. Thomas’ College vs Prince of Wales College
Opener Rashmika Opatha’s 71-ball 101 stood out as S. Thomas’ College registered a first-innings win over the Cambrians in their drawn match at Moratuwa.

The hosts’ made a par score of 221. Number 9 batsman, Savindu Peiris made a slow 42 from 133 balls. Vihanga Weerakkody contributed with 39. Dineth Kannangara and Dellon Peiris shared 7 wickets for the Thomians.

The visitors managed to gain first-innings points’ thanks to a swashbuckling ton by the former Sri Lanka under 19 opener. Dellon Peiris contributed with the bat as well while skipper Thilan Nimesh captured 5 wickets for the Cambrians.

Thurstan College vs St. Benedict’s College
Thurstan College once again scraped through to first-innings points in a low-scoring affair against St. Benedict’s College at Kotahena.

Last year’s league runners-up, Thurstan College were bowled out for a mere 100 by fast-bowler Poorna Charuka’s deadly spell of bowling.

Isitha Wijesundara and Ayesh Weeraratne strung the comeback by sharing 7 wickets for 19 runs as the hosts’ succumbed to only 85.

The visitors fared better in the second innings with three batsmen scoring half-centuries to take them to safety.
