Under 16 National players to be chosen via three stages

In order to prepare for the upcoming international tournaments this year, the under 16 National football team squad will be selected on the 7th, 8th and 15th of this month. 

The first stage will commence on the 7th of January (today) for the players born on the year 2000 at Colombo City League Grounds at Kew Points Road. The selection process will continue tomorrow for the players born on 2001 followed up on 15th for the players born on 2002 and 2003.

The selection will start at 7.30 pm and will continue all day long. 

Selection Dates

Batch 1 – Players who were born in the year 2000 – 7th Saturday, January 2017, at 7.30 am at City League Football Grounds.

Batch 2 – Players who were born in the year 2001 – 8th Sunday, January 2017, at 7.30 am at City League Football Grounds.

Batch 3 – Players who were born in the year 2002 & 2003 – 15th Saturday, January 2017, at 7.30 am at City League Football Grounds.

The players who get through the selection process will go through a final selection hurdle on the 21st and 22nd of January. The final selections for the squad will be held on the last day.

The National U.16 Football team will compete against Japan, Bhutan and Nepal in a Junior Tournament which will be held from 12th to 14th of March in Colombo. 

Furthermore, the selected squad will compete in the qualifiers of Asian Football Federation Cup which will commence on the latter stage of the year in September and October.

Sri Lanka Football Federation has asked for fullest corporation from all the schools and organisations to support the selection cause by helping the players participate in the selections.
