U-19 Cricket : Joes a vice-grip over Maris Stella, Aloysius in first innings win & Joseph Vaz dominate

St. Joseph’s College choked Maris Stella College on day one in their Under 19 Inter school cricket encounter at Kadirana Grounds.

In reply to St. Joseph’s first innings total of 206 all out, Maris Stella laboured to 33 for 5 wickets in 35 overs at the end of days play. Immaculate Joes bowling frustrated the Maris Stella batsmen who were reduced to bat out the overs till the close of play with Sri Lanka U19 leg spinner Aravinda Akurugoda stifling the opposition with 2 for 1.

Earlier in the day St. Joseph’s were bundled out for 206 all out after winning the toss with Jehan Daniel (58) and Nipun Samarasinghe (50) scoring half centuries. The other batsman failed only scoring 97 runs combined. For Maris Stella Srimal De Mel and Pasindu Madawa bagged three wickets each.

St. Aloysius win on first innings

St. Aloysius, Galle edged out a first innings win over Dharmasoka MV Ambalangoda in a low scoring affair at the Galle Stadium.

Batting first Dharmasoka were skittle out for a paltry 93 with Sajith Sankalpa taking three wickets while Prabodha Madushanka and Gihan Niroshan bagging two wickets each. S. Aloysius in their reply didn’t fare any better but managed to score 118. Ravindu Tharindu ripped through the batting taking 6 for 43.

Dharmasoka in their second innings declared with the score on 190 for 6 with Ravin Tharindu this time shining with the bat scoring an unbeaten 43. Kasun Maduranga took all three wickets for just 5 runs as St.Aloysius ended the second day on 40 for 3 chasing a victory target of 165.

Sewwinda Silva shines as Joseph Vaz dominate

Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa cruised to a first innings win over Moratu MV in their U19 Inter School Encounter played at Moratuwa.

Taking first leash of the wicket Joseph Vaz scored 241 all out. Irash scored a half century while Sewwinda Silva was dismissed for a heart breaking 49. Harsha Fernando of Moratu MV had to toil for his 5 wicket haul conceding 106 runs.

In reply Moratu MV could only muster 163 with Thilan Kavishka’s half century being the only major contribution. Avishka Fernando took 4 wickets and Praveen Dilanka took 3 for the visitors.

In their second innings Sewwinda Silva made up for his heart breaking dismissal on 49 with a fluent 60 not out as Joseph Vaz ended the match on 106 with the loss of two wickets.

Maliyadeva takes first innings over Anuradhapura Central

Maliyadeva College registered a first innings win over new comers Anuradhapura Central in the Under 19 match ended at Anuradhapura.

Bhanuka Keppitipola’s half century and Ransilu Bandara’s 44 helped Maliyadeva score 214 with Chandula Premaratne taking 3 wickets.

Anurapdhapura Central managed just 176 with Praveen Niyomal falling seven short of a well deserved half century. Danodya Kollure and Damitha Silva were the chief destroyers for Maliyadeva bagging three wickets each.

At the end of the second day Maliyadeva were seven down for 164.
