Twenty seven wickets tumble in a dramatic opening days play

A total of twenty seven wickets tumbled in a dramatic opening days play in the SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match between Colts CC and Badureliya CC which commenced at Havelock Park today.

 

Badureliya CC electing to bat first after winning the toss were skittle out for just 98 runs in their first innings with spinner Akila Dananjaya returning excellent figures of three wickets for 16 runs from four overs. 

However Badureliya CC hit back strongly through their bowlers and went on to snatch a close first innings lead by dismissing their opponents for a mere 76 runs in reply with the two opening bowlers Imesh Udayanga (4 for 15) and Thilina Thushara (3 for 34) causing the damage. 

Badureliya CC produced an improved batting performance in their second innings and finished a sensational opening day by reaching 135 for 7 wickets which gave them an overall lead of 157 runs with three wickets in hand. 

Meanwhile Ragama CC were struggling at 151 for 5 wickets in reply to Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC’s first innings total of 214 runs on the opening day of their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match which commenced at Braybrooke Place today. 

Opener Udara Jayasundera struck a fluent half century for Ragama CC but the rest of the batting collapsed against the spin of Chanaka Komasaru who has already snapped up four wickets for 31 runs. 

Earlier Sri Lanka Ports Authority CC managed to score only 214 runs in their first innings after electing to bat first with only Sachithra Serasinghe (59) and Ishan Rangana (46) offering any kind of resistance. 

Season campaigner Asanka Silva impressed with the ball for Ragama CC while returning outstanding figures of five wickets for 46 runs from 14 overs. 

CCC were well poised to snatch a good first innings lead after they had dominated the opening day of their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match against Sri Lanka Aitr Force Sports Club which began at Maitland Crescent today. 

Even then CCC suffered a major blow when they were dismissed for a modest 212 runs in the first innings after having been invited to bat first. 

Wicket keeper batsman Prasanna Jayawardena hit a fighting half century from 75 balls with the help of eight boundaries while the Airmen struck through their pace spin combination of Lasanda Rukmal (3 for 60) and Lahiru Lakmal (3 for 10).

However the CCC really made amends for their failure with the bat by producing an inspired performance on the field as they restricted Sri Lanka Air Force SC to 139 for 7 wickets in reply.

Chilaw Marians CC put up a tremendous batting performance to take major honours on the opening day of their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match against the Bloomfield which began at Reid Avenue today. 

Chilaw Marians CC electing to bat first after winning the toss rallied around through a magnificent century from opening batsman Geeth Alwis to rattle up a massive 428 runs with the back up support coming from Kanchana Gunawardena (71) and wicket keeper batsman Vidura Adhikari. 

Former Sri Lanka youth cap Rumesh Buddhika struck an unbeaten century to put the Tamil Union in a strong position on the opening day of their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match against Panadura SC which began at the Panadura Esplanade today.

Buddhika remained unbeaten on 167 from 202 deliveries inclusive of two sixes and twenty boundaries as the Tamil Union reached a formidable 351 for 4 wickets having elected to bat first.

Sri Lanka Army Sports Club put up a stunning performance to dismiss a strong NCC team for 256 runs in their first innings on the opening day of their SLC inter club Premier League cricket tournament match which commenced at Panagoda today.
