Trinity College missed out topping group E in the 2016 Sri Lanka Schools’ Football Association U19 Division II tournament and failed to qualify to the next round.
Trinity defeated St.Sylvester’s College comprehensively with a 5-0 score line while in their final group game managed a 1-1 draw against Dharmaraja College. However with Rajans winning 7-1 against St.Sylvester’s they topped the group and qualified.

Divyan hat-trick
After an indifferent first half, where both Trinity and St.Sylvester’s missed a few chances, it was Nadarajah Divyan who gave the Lions a 1-0 lead going into half time.
The second half saw a much improved Trinity side put their opponents to the sword with clinical football. Divyan doubled the score while center-back S.Wijewardena made it 3-0.
Divyan completed his hat-trick soon after as Trinity dominated play not allowing St.Sylvester’s any chances. Nuwan Jayalath scored from a one on one situation in the dying moments to make it 5-0.
A drawn tense affair
The match against Dharmaraja College saw Trinity College weather the Gihan Ishara on slot to draw the game 1-1.
In an end to end first half both sides came close to scoring but poor finishing and good defense kept the scores nill all.
Rajans came close when Ishara’s powerful effort bounced off the crossbar while a Lions free-kick was brilliantly saved by the Rajans goalkeeper.
However it was Trinity who went into half with the lead when Divyan calmly slotted the ball into the goal after getting end of a delightful through ball. Ishara again hit the post with a free-kick as the unlucky Rajans went into half time to re-group.
The second half was a rather cagey affair until the tackles came flying in as the referee had to brandish a few yellow cards to keep the game in order.
In the second half luck was in Rajans favour as a Gihan Ishara effort on goal deflected and crashed into the goal for the equalizer. Trinity College went in search of the winner in the final few minutes but squandered two golden chances towards the end.
Devadasan hat-trick
Jehan Devadasan scored a hat-trick as Wesley College defeated D.S.Senanayake College 4-0 in the U19 Division II group B encounter at the Moragasmulla Grounds.
D.S.Senanayake College was one of the 11 teams relegated from the Division I.
