Trinity thrash St. Anthony’s to retain Richard Aluwihare trophy


Trinity College, Kandy recorded a smashing 149-run win over St. Anthony’s College, Katugasthota in their 37th annual limited-overs encounter played for the Richard Aluwihare trophy on Saturday in Katugasthota.

Trinity skipper and Sri Lanka youth player Hasitha Boyagoda stroked a magnificent 109 off 111 balls with 12 fours and became the first Trinitian to score a hundred in their limited-overs series.

After opting to bat first, Boyagoda’s hundred propelled Trinity to post a mammoth 305 from their allotted 50 overs. Hasintha Jayasuriya, Abishek Anandakumar and Thisaru Dilshan made valuable 40s while off-spinner Kavinda Senaratne grabbed 3 wickets for the hosts.

In reply, the Anthonians faltered as they were bundled out for just 156 runs with Navod Vijekumar being the top-run scorer. Seamer Ruvin Peiris, off-spinners Boyagoda and Kavishka Senadheera took two wickets apiece.
