Trinity powered over Isipathana to claim plate in U 18 rugby

Two top teams relegated to the Plate level of the U 18 ‘fifteen a side’ rugby to tournament  saw Trinity College overcome Isipathana College in the final.

Isipathana College began brightly as they applied pressure on the Trinity defence and  were rewarded for their early pressure as lock forward B. Jithmal crashed over to score for Isipathana College. Full back D.G.H. Wikramarathna failed to convert the try as the score remained at 5-nil in favour of Isipathana.

Trinity College soon got in to the rhythm of the game and began to spread the ball wide and press the Pathana defence and resulted in the Pathana defence being penalized twice for indiscipline. Trinity capitalized and took the kick at goal on both occasions as Trinity Fly half L.V.A. Wijesuriya made the Pathans boys pay as he added points on both occasion as Trinity College took the lead in the game for the first time. Trinity  06-05 Isipathana.

Trinity College piled more pressure and H.R. Madena scored off a scintillating chip kick from half back A.R. Boyagoda. With the try Trinity College extended their further in the game. Trinity Fly half L.V.A. Wijesuriya successfully converted the try. Trinity 13-05 Isipathana College.

Trinity College extended their lead more as a penalty from L.V.A. Wijesuriya and a good move ended by scrum half A.R. Boyagoda. With L.V.A. Wijesuriya converting both the penalty and the try, they ended the first half with a sizeable lead in favour of Trinity College. Trinity 23-05 Isipathana College.

Trinity College began the second half on the front foot as replacement centre A.R.Priyankara ran a good line through the Isipathana defence and scored under the post to seal the game for Trinity College. L.V.A. Wijesuriya successfully converted the try. Trinity 30-05 Pathana.

Isipathana struck back through D.G.H. Wikramarathna and D.V. Hettiarachichi converted but it was all too little too late as Trinity College humbled Isipathana College to capture the plate in the “Milo” under 18 ‘Fifteen a side’ rugby tournament.
