Trinity batters go on the rampage

Trinity College took on Sri Sumangala today in an interschool cricket encounter and the Trinity batsmen carried on their form amassing a huge first innings total.

Sri Sumangala winning the toss had no hesitation in inviting their opponents to bat first and their decision backfired when the Lions completely dominated proceedings piling on 309 runs in their first innings for the loss of just 4 wickets. They managed to score this forceful total with the help of their top order, which comprises of Rajitha Jayatunga, Dinuk Wickramanayake and Ron Chandragupta who all played a valuable hand with the willow.

Deputy skipper Jayatunga was the man in form for the Trinitians scoring an almost run-a-ball 107 runs which came off 108 balls. His unbeaten innings was inclusive of 6 hits to the ropes and 2 big sixes. Skipper Wickramanayake came in to bat after the top order had done most of the damage and he eased himself to an unbeaten half ton while senior batsman Ron Chandragupta ended his innings on 51 runs. For Sumanagala there was not much to write home about with only D. Sandeepa grabbing two wickets for 98 runs.

Sumangala then batting in their first innings at the end of the first days play were all out for 95 runs in 42.3 over’s. Only a few batsmen got in to double figures and troubled the bowlers, but the rest of the players looked out of sorts to the bowling of pacie Lakshan Jayasinghe who ended with figures of 4/13. S. J. K Akalanka and C. A Amarasekera were the only noteworthy contributors with the bat for Sumangala scoring 20 and 19 runs respectively.
