The first round matches in the singer U19 Div I cricket tournament got underway this month. Here’s a look into a few matches which concluded today.

Isipathana College VS St Peter’s College 

Traditional encounter between Isipathana College and St Peter’s College ended with St Peter’s securing a first innings victory at their own backyard. The Peterites resumed play today with 156 runs on board. Anishka Perera was unbeaten on 50 and carried on to make 80 runs. Ranmith Jayasena chipped in with a valuable 42. St. Peter’s managed to post 256 in 76.5 overs. Ayana Siriwardane bagged 7 wickets for 74 runs.

The visitors came onto bat in the second session of day 2. Pathum Nissanka top scored with 77 for Isipathana as they comfortably batted the rest of the day. At stumps they were 239 for 9. Sachin Silva, Chathura Obeysekara and Miflal Ameen bagged two wickets each.

Early on Isipathana were bowled out for a solitary 190. Ayana Siriwardane top scored with 52 and Miflal Ameen bagged 4 wickets for the Peterites.

Trinity College VS Dharmaraja College 

These hill country giants went head to head in a group A match at the Asgiriya International Stadium. Shanmuganathan Shanogeeth and Hasitha Boyagoda stood out in the first innings with centuries as Trinity posted a massive 422/6 in 72 overs. Niwantha Herath bagged 4 for 66 for Dharmaraja.

The Rajans came in to bat with a mammoth task ahead of them. They couldn’t get going as Thisaru Dilshan helped in their demolition for just 90 runs. Dilshan bagged 8 wickets for just 31 runs. They were asked to follow on and this time around they showed some grit. Deshan Gunasinghe played a fighting knock of 70 but it proved not enough as Dharmaraja got bowled out for 214. Thisaru Dilshan completed his ten wicket haul with 2 wickets in the second innings. Trinity registered a massive innings and 118 run victory.

St Mary’s College VS Nalanda College

Nalanda registered an easy 8 wicket victory against St Mary’s in another group A encounter at Nalanda grounds. The home side made an overnight declaration with a lead of 134 runs. St Mary’s toiled hard till the final session but they were bowled out for 202 runs in 77.3 overs. Sandaru Sriyashantha top scored with 58 while Sajeewa Ranjith and Mass Rahim chipped in with valuable cameos.

With an easy target of 69 to get, the home side came into bat for their second innings. They managed to get to the target within the given time with 8 wickets in hand

Ananda College VS Wesley College

Wesley College succumbed to a heavy defeat in this group B encounter against Ananda College today at Wesley grounds. Wesley College were asked to follow on the second day after being bowled out for just 153 in their first innings. They managed to get off to a good start but lost their way towards the latter part of the first session. Thisuraka Akmeemana and Helitha Bambaranda scored 45 and 48 respectively for Wesley but they could not avoid an innings defeat. Dileepa Jayalath bagged 6 wickets for 86 while Shammu Ashan took 3 for 78. The home side was bowled out for just 214 which gave Ananda an innings and 10 run victory.

Early on, Ananda College posted 377 for 4 with Sahan Suraweera and Shammu Ashan posting centuries.
